Props & Weapons Policy

Motor City Comic Con is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees. To maintain a secure environment, we have implemented a Prop and Weapons Check Policy to regulate props and weapons during the event.

  • Definition of Props and Weapons Props: Any item carried by attendees as part of their cosplay outfit that resembles a weapon or other object, even if it is not functional or dangerous. This includes but is not limited to swords, shields, staffs, wands, and fake firearms. Weapons: Any item, real or replica, capable of causing harm or used to simulate harm, including but not limited to firearms, bladed weapons, and projectile-firing devices.
  • Prop and Weapons Check Procedure: Cosplayers must present all props and weapons for inspection before entering the event. There will be a dedicated Prop and Weapons Check Table near the entrance. A banner will be on display to help identify the location. This applies to all attendees, regardless of age or costume. Props and weapons will be checked by designated event staff. Staff will assess whether the items comply with safety regulations. Items that pass inspection will receive a visibly marked tag indicating their approval. Do not remove the tag. Items that do not meet safety standards will not be permitted into the event. Attendees must return these items to their vehicles. Motor City Comic Con will not be responsible for storing prohibited items.
  • Safety Regulations: Props and weapons must be non-functional and incapable of causing harm. This includes ensuring that no sharp edges or points are present. All firearms must be visibly fake and/or have highly visible marking. They must not be able to fire projectiles of any kind. Projectile-firing devices (e.g., Nerf guns) must be rendered inoperable and incapable of firing projectiles. Bladed weapons must be blunt and not capable of cutting or piercing. Foam or other soft materials are highly recommended. Any item resembling a weapon must be used responsibly and safely to avoid accidents or causing discomfort to other attendees.
  • Costume and Behavior: Cosplayers must adhere to Motor City Comic Con’s general code of conduct, which includes respectful and responsible behavior. Motor City Comic Con reserves the right to remove any persons for behavior that is deemed unacceptable and/or dangerous.
  • Compliance: Failure to comply with the Prop and Weapons Check Policy may result in ejection from the event without refund and potential legal consequences if any laws are violated. Motor City Comic Con reserves the right to amend or adjust this policy as needed to ensure the safety and security of all attendees.
