Dedren Snead is a writer, content creator, social entrepreneur, cultural curator and futurist from Atlanta, GA. As the creator of the comic series SORGHUM & SPEAR (executive produced by Nichelle Nichols), SKY SKIPPERS, THE THINGS I’VE SEEN and UPROOTED, his works have risen to prominence in the realms of Afrofuturism, Independent Comics and Art Creators of Color with several award nominations and guest appearances at museums, universities and conventions with speaking engagements and art shows across the county. He is also a co-host of a black creative podcast NEW WAKANDA.
Dedren founded his studio GREENE COUNTY CREATIVE in 2015, as follow-up from his social entrepreneurship project at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after graduation. The hallmark was to create “Inclusive Entertainment” in the media of art, comics, gaming and animation; all of which had saturated his childhood and were lifelong loves.
“How young people, especially young People of Color, interpret their place in the world, solidify their value systems and define their self-worth along engaging their peers in drawing their social standards occurs earlier and earlier in their lives. If there is a dearth of representation and inclusion of their identities, cultures and acceptance of who they are, just as they are, then we as a creative community have failed them.” Dedren Snead.
Outside of his creative efforts, Dedren has worked abroad in Japan, China and Korea as a global economist and has a background in social media marketing, influencer engagement and sales training with luxury automotive brands Lexus and Genesis. He portrays himself as a dog person in person, but secretly wants a cat.
